The W.E.N. Network In Poetry and Prose
The Social Status of Women and the problems we face
and the inherent tribulations of following the Status Quo.
The life we live is a direct result of
generations of conditions that have worked together to
make the woman physically weak, mentally narrow and politically powerless.
It happens in the three systems that govern our lives.
Public Education; Criminal Justice and lastly Government.
What is the role Black Women will play?
What are the responsibilities to her community?
And lastly What type of leadership will emerge that will-restore Humanity?
I want you during this series to question the bigger mission for your life. It will help you find happiness and discover peace and tranquility.
During the last twenty-five years in public education, I searched for a way to express myself and contribute to society. What I found as I began to unearth the source of my suffering was a darkness and abyss so bleak that every time I looked in I would quiver and quake. I looked down into the darkness and dove in heart first to find meaning and purpose and quiet my restless heart.
Searching for a PANACEA to solve the deep-seated problems that plagued my happiness, Seven tools were revealed to me in the wee hours of the morning one day.
The Seven tools will awaken the deeper dimension of the self as you discover a more enlightened way of relating to life. We, Black women, are empowered through the feminine aspect of life. Learn to let go and let the life inside you unfold.
Listen with me as the Great Story of Woman is told, We write the history and tell the tale of woman’s rise to her natural state. We are empowered as women and mothers as we guide the world through story writing and conversation. Join me in building a New Human Community,
My awareness of womanism is entrenched with my want to create a new language from my experience as a woman through Poetry and as a Word-Press Vlog/Blogger. Through these mediums, I authenticate my life and reconstruct the story of women in society.
Womanism is an idea about how I create a new language from my experience in a society that does not value my life. It is a way to value and validate my own experiences through writing and telling stories.
In addition, my stories reflect my aspiration and ideas not only about my life but my community and ultimately the world.
As a woman, I want my voice to be heard in the society in which I live, in the way children are educated and the way women are respected in that society.
Writing and Vlogging is a way to express the ideas of the time. It is a medium that is timeless and has the potential to inspire not only the immediate generation but many generations to come.
With the advent of the internet, Vlog has become possible to reach across the world to a massive audience. There are immediate effects and a lasting effect that it has on women.
The long-term goal is for women to begin to see themselves as powerful, and appreciate feminine values such as cooperation and harmony and bring these values to relationships and the marketplace and ultimately the world.
This creates Woman’s Culture which is important in creating and sustaining the consciousness that leads to lessening the gender gap.
In this light, Womanist Culture is linked to political outcomes and political activism.
Writing as a Practice of Mindfulness
A sort of remembering of a past experience.
This time with detached emotions,
Through the lens of an adult who stepped back into the past to recover a memory that had shaped her life.
It was-like browsing through a picture album of the mind seeing a distorted image of a life lived; from on top of the mountain; into the deepest valley, only to return to the same spot from which I had begun.
Holding onto that image of a little girl sitting all alone, with the innocence of a new born.
Caused undue stress and strain on the body. Now fifty years later has taken hold.
Fifty years ago Pamala sat and tried to make sense of what she was experiencing.
Words eluded her.
She only had a feeing that she could accurately describes,
Which etched itself onto the soft confines of her mind;
It was a seed planted in fertile ground.
As the seed took hold and began to grow;
Unaware Pamala feed it fear, loneliness and unworthiness,
Experience proved her right.
As she continued to hold onto this image like a covering for her loneliness.
She tried to comfort herself.
Only her tiny arms could not fully embrace her whole self.
She was left feeling empty.
Never would her belly be full.
She never knew that she was always whole and complete.
Feeling empty was a falsehood that she told herself and was determined to make real.
So began the process of creating a life
Experience shaped her mind; fear filled her heart.
Her soul continued to search for a resting place.
A quiet spot to call her own.
Glimpses of a life would appear
Only to be covered over with the Karma she created each time she told herself thelie.
The lie shrouded her truth.
The ache in her heart grew stronger pounding her head until the mind shut down and went into hibernation.
Down a deep dark cavern she sunk.
With no light Pamala wandered for many years trying to find a way out.
Shrouded in darkness forced me to look within for a source of light.
Winter of Discontentment
This cold, freezing temperature has me frozen solid unable to move, to distinguish what is solid and what is flowing water.
This ache in my belly; this unfamiliarity has me stuck as waves of biting cold lull me into a deep sleep, sort of like a coma that I seem unable to wake from.
The the claws of fatigue drag me into an unproductive stupor; a kind of holding place before I am swept out into the open sea.
Out into the middle of the sea, the frigid water take my strength away as wave upon wave crash onto me. I hold tight to as the hammering continue.
In a bewildered state I see familiar faces and words that I reach and try to grab a hold of which has held me to the bottom of the sea and given me a sense of inner security.
My arms start to flail as find a rhythm that will keep me afloat.
One long deep breath and I am swimming across the surface of the sea.
Days I drift until shore seems approachable.
Nearing the shoreline I see people wave; two males swim out and greet me.
I lay limp as they drape a life vest around me and pull me to shore.
On solid ground I open my eyes to the bright sunshine; to the winds brushing across my cheeks; to the smiles and laughter that greet me; to the arms that embrace me; to the love surrounding me; to the open waters that have cleansed me.
I turn and take one last look at the vast waters that I have just emerged from.
A smile crosses my lips; a copper glow emits from my skin…
My insides have been emptied into the depths of the vast sea.
The Empowered Womyn does not ascribe to maintaining the status quo. She wants to create a better world for children, students and all of Humanity.
She has lived in the shadow of her true self. A quiet one who kept to herself because she did not want to rock the boat, or be seen as an agitator, trouble maker or radical one.
Her silence only reinforces more of the same. In 2017 the world begins to resemble the hell she feared. Something must be done lest the world will burn.
Is there another way to be in the world. Glimpses of a greater self appeared in her dreams. Kept in the shadows, it grew strong. Un-hampered by those who would destroy her spirit.
The power she has within can meet any resistance and transform it into something that will propel her forward on her path to the sea.
Her vast potential laying dormant, like a molecule of water that once aligns with the sea begins to crash and wash over anything in its’ wake.
Part 3: Re-imagine Feminine Leadership
On Becoming a Change Agent
The Teacher is Like the Artist in the new schools of the future. She is the most important person in the Educational Reform Movement. Teaching becomes an art form. The way the teacher expresses her full potential. The material is her students. She stands back occasionally to look at the master piece that she has created. Students are engaged in the lesson, hands flung up towards the sky, eyes brimming and filled with wonder. One students speak and others listen intently, showing full respect to the speaker, wanting a turn because the voice is the sign of an intelligent mind put to good use. She has put her best work into shaping the canvas of the mind of youth. She paints a picture of justice and a love of learning. The sheer joy of exploring content and letting it live in her students is her just reward. She knows she will be evaluated on her skills as we look to her work.
She has completed her formal studies, fully grasping the material. Now it is time for it to live. It lives through her as she become the catalyst for learning. She follows no rote script, but relies on her own intuition and the spontaneity that arises in the learning environment. She teaches more than reading, writing and math. She teaches students how to immerse themselves in the moment and not be afraid to make mistakes. Because in the blunder there is a lesson.
She is animated by the material she presents because she knows that her subjects are children who have a heart and soul. She treats them as active participants in learning. Coaxing them to take risk and make mistakes. It is a dance of two.
The educator as Change Agent will renew society. It is a task that one walks into willingly. As you walk into your class room conscious of the role you play. You are the model onto which students value learning.
You are central to transforming society. We change the world by giving students what is central to their well-being. Education becomes more than imparting information. It became a vehicle to advance society and the lives of students.
Students are not there for the benefit of teachers. Teachers are there for students. You are not to live out your fantasy of ruling the lives of children, but there to guide them on a discovery. It is the world they want to know about. It is taught within the lesson. It is by having a positive student/teacher relationship that real learning and change take place.
Re-Imagine Feminine Leadership
Women Shape Culture
Today’s Woman wants a measure of freedom. A place that she can test her wings. It is in the classroom where she practices for her solo flight.
On the take off she organizes and instruct. Her pupils are the subjects upon which she inspires by her lead.
Students love her. They call out her. Little Emanuel wants all her attention and will do most anything.
As the cultural icon that shape human life, Woman has a tremendous responsibility.
She reads her script. Make it come alive and do a wondrous thing.
Unfortunately, most times she has her wings clipped by the looming ideas of what education should look like.
The American Educational System is designed for the white male to succeed. His curriculum sheds light on his accomplishments and his mode of learning.
Oftentimes this model does more damage to a fragile psyche of a growing child. That which was established is the 1950’s has outlived its’ usefulness.
I like the model of the Chinese Educational System. In this system, the child’s first few years of school are dedicated to students learning the skills necessary for socialization and getting along with his peers and teachers.
There is less emphasis on testing until the intermediate years.
On the other hand, The American Education System does a dis-service both to children and educators.
New teachers are sent to low performing schools. It takes at least seven to tens years to become a seasoned veteran.
While the teacher learns the students receives second to best and his needs are pushed aside.
Let’s reimagine for a moment the task before women.
We women carry the Culture in our hearts and it is Heart to heart that children learn.
We are the Culture carriers passing on the intelligence needed to reconstruct society.
The Empowered Woman’s Course is a P.A.N.A.C.E.A., a universal cure for the plight of women.
It provides a paradigm through which women can truly see.
It allows the natural feminine essence of women to shine.
We have allowed men to guide human life. Unfortunately they are ill-equipped for this work.
I propose that we women look through the lens that acknowledges the feminine aspect of life.
This is a Feminine model of leadership which will be discussed in the next post.
